Ellie Jane Goulding was born in Hereford England on December 30 1986. Her mother Tracey Goulding Summers worked in an ice cream shop and her dad Arthur Goulding was a member of an undertaker's family. Goulding came into the world in 2000. She has two sisters, Isabel and Jordan. The brother of her is Alex. Alex his younger brother is the guitar. Alex also is part of a group from Hereford. Her mother was a big advocate for her music as a child. She began learning to play clarinet as a child at the age of age nine. After she turned 14 she began to write lyrics. However, she didn't get serious about songwriting until college. Goulding was intrigued by electronic music and dance as she studied. She came across Frankmusik who was a producer of records through MySpace. With his help she created her own unique folktronica style. Jamie Lillywhite found her at that time. She initially worked as her manager before she became A.&R. of a university talent contest. Lillywhite then introduced her to the music producer Starsmith who was instrumental in the November 15 2009 publication of her first single, Under the Sheets. Then he helped her with her album Lights. Even though they released Under the Sheets through the independent label Neon Gold Records she was already signed to Polydor Records.
